6 awesome things to do this December, whether you’re going out or staying in
Thu 04 November 2021 | By Good Times
So the clocks have gone back, the nights are properly drawing in and it’s hella cold out there (plus, y’know, corona). On the other hand, party season is just around the corner and it’s one of the busiest times of the year for cool new stuff opening. Whether you’re pulling on your joggers, turning up the heating and getting cosy AF, or determined to get off the sofa and GTFO, we’ve got you. Here are the absolute best things to do this November, all via Good Times.
The brainy one
You maybe picked up one or two things at school – algebra, spelling, the French word for ‘guinea pig’ – but you probably never learned how to negotiate a deal, unleash your creative potential, make decisions or breathe better. This month could be time to change that with How To Academy, which is hosting online lessons and sessions on all those topics and loads more.
The decadent one
It’s almost Advent calendar season, so go on: tune up your palate with a chocolate tasting session. Let renowned chocolatiers Melt London send you eight samples of the world’s finest choc, Zoom you through what it takes to produce luxury cocoa, and give you tips on how to really appreciate a high-quality bar. After this, Toblerone just ain’t going to cut it.
The crafty one
If there’s one thing ‘Uncut Gems’ taught us, it’s that jewellery can be mega stressful. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Order a bespoke making kit from Cast, and you get to sculpt your own totally unique jewellery piece in wax. Then you send it back, their experts cast it in ethical silver, and you get the finished item in the post within four weeks. Cool, right? Get on it asap and you could even make a very sweet custom Christmas present. Or keep it for yourself, that’s fine too.
The tasty one
There’s something high-key delicious coming to central London: a festival of eats and beats called The Great Feast. Cheffing talent serving up plates at a ‘Counter of Joy’ includes Andrew Wong and Ravinder Bhogal. There will be cocktails. There will be desserts. There will also be sweet music by Yazmin Lacey, Joel Culpepper and more excellent artists. Tuck in.
The toasty one
Name all the things you might expect to find on the roof of an east London warehouse. Did you say ‘a bunch of luxurious Finnish-style sauna cabins’? If so, you smashed it: that’s exactly what Netil House in Hackney has set up for the winter. You can book a private session for up to four people, and there are hot and cold showers and an open-air cool-down area for the full Nordic experience. Plus you get priority access to the Netil360 rooftop bar afterwards. As winter warmers go, you won’t beat this.
The silly one
You don’t need a blue rinse to play bingo these days: the new generation is here, and it’s crazy fun. Forget ‘eyes down’ – at Dabbers HQ in central London, every night is a raucous, boozy bingo night with comedy and music slathered on top. (They also run events in west London and Margate.) November’s line-up even includes an (extremely unofficial) Abba-themed sesh. Round up your crew and make it a full house.
